Job Requirements

Social Care Team Leaders required for services supporting adults with learning disabilities in Galway. Team Leader is responsible for supporting the coordination and management of community based residential services. Responsibilities include to support resource-management and staffing in order to ensure a good quality of life for the people living in each area.

The Job:

  • Assist in formulating, implementing and evaluating service plans.
  • Provide leadership to all staff/ team members within the service and appraise staff performance and provide support and supervision to staff members.
  • Support and facilitate the key workers in his/her team to meet the identified needs arising from the individual Person Centred Plan.
  • Ensure the team, is focused on the individual needs of the service user.
  • Prepare and be responsible for staff rosters and the provision of locum cover where necessary in your designated area.
  • To ensure that all accidents and complaints are immediately reported and provide follow up information
  • To ensure safekeeping of personal possessions of service users and ensure accountability for all services user monies in line with the organisations policy on managing service users finances.
  • To maintain written records in line with best practice, current legislation and HIQA regulations
  • Ensure the appropriate proactive strategies are documented and implemented on individual service users.
  • To ensure a good standard of hygiene and cleanliness is maintained throughout the Services.
  • Ensure that all repairs to buildings and equipment are carried out promptly.
  • To take on the role of PPIM as required in line with HIQA Regulations & Standards.
  • Be aware of current employment legislation and follow the Human Resource procedures and policies of the organisation.
  • Ensure that the Services Medication Policy is followed and good practice is upheld in the administration of medication.
  • Ensure the Pastoral Care needs of the Service Users are being met.
  • Be conscious of Health and Safety matters
  • As the duties and responsibilities of any post in the Service are likely to change with the ongoing needs of the individuals, i.e. age, level of disability, Personal Outcome Measures, etc., staff are expected to have a high level of flexibility, and a willingness and an ability to develop new approaches to their work as the individuals needs demand.


The Candidate:

  • Third level qualification in the Health or Social Care sectors e.g. BA (HONS) in Applied Social Studies/Social Care, Psychology, Social Work or an RNID/ RPN Nursing qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role in the Health/Social Care Sectors and or experience in working within the Mental Health Sector would be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience of working in a person-centred service with people with intellectual disabilities and challenging behaviour is essential.
  • Candidates must have a full clean driving licence.
